Free Skate is generally the weekend before the fourth of July. Free Skate 09 unfortunately was a wash/rain out. Stay tuned for Philadelphia Free Skate 2010. In addition, we skate all year long. Look up Landskaters.org for meetup times. Wishing for dry roads.

bont semi-race skates rock!!

just got a pair a few months ago, and finally skating on them a lot.. they are so incredible it is hard to explain!! speed, support, fit.. great for wide feet (i have 4E).. and heat moldable, but be very very careful when you do.. also, if need special size can email season@bont.com with a tracing of your foot, and for $20/change ($40/pair I believe), they will make a last that fits your foot exactly.. just make a tracing and indicate measurements on the tracing and scan it and email it!! but i did fine by just going w/ stock boot. good luck.. best skates in history maybe, but i will try the bont vaypors some day! the three point mount is genius.. a real advance in skating.. revolutionary!! more support, less weight, lower center of gravity.. unreal!!

Has anyone tried Rollerblade Coyotes, or the Roches trail skate? I've got Coyotes and hope to work back up to using them this fall/winter. We've got local railway conversion trails that are great for this. However, the skates are so heavy (about 8 lbs each) that I can only use them once or twice a week.

Road Rash!

Now, this is ironic. I joined this tribe yesterday, and today I wiped out for the first time in months. REALLY wiped out -- fell on a 90 degree turn at the bottom of a huge hill, skating it for the first time. Didn't get hurt bad, but got the road rash from my hip to my ankle.

Any suggestions for healing it up? I took some ibuprofen when I got home, and am trying to work up my nerve toward getting in the shower.

Skate sizes, picking first skates (Seattle/Everett area)

Got the urge to pick up a set of inline skates to try it out last weekend but starting out shopping at G.I. Joes may not have been the best idea. The selection was so-so and the worker dweebs less than helpful. One vague comment that skate sizes run small compared to shoe sizes was the only useful thing to come out of it.

Was the comment about sizes correct? GIven that I wear size 12 shoes, should I look for size 12.5 skates (which seem a little scarce)?

What should a newbie look for in his first skates?

Thanks, G

Aloha,

I've been trying to find some size 14 inline skates on ebay,
I'm 6'6", weigh 200lbs, am 52, and have no inline experience.
I also live on Kauai where I don't really see anyone skating, and we don't have many sidewalks.
What do you think?? Should I even bother??
I hear the K2 skates run a half size small, and there's no way I can wear a 13.
Recommendations??

Mahalo (Thanks) for any ideas here.

Aloha, Nick

so i found this (inline)-skating tribe, the question i have though is simply this... is this tribe for inline skaters only or do you have space for the craziest downhill/dancing/speedfreak rollerskater the world has ever seen, honestly, there's no hill too steep. one of my favorite things to do is skate up a mountain pass/ mountain road (a smooth one really helps) and then bomb it for all it's worth, usually i'll accomplish this by skating backwards as my stopppers are in the front of my skates.
right now it's dumping snow here in portland, OR so snowbaording is the preferred method of devlish downhiliness, but if there is anyone out there inline or quads that would like to get together sometime and do some skating let me know.
(oh yeah, i also like to spin fire poi on my skates)

My apologies, I dont usually join tribes just to advertise, but I'm kind of hoping this tribe takes off. There are so many people who love skating, inline or quad, and it seems like more rediscovering the sport every day. I cant decide if we're in the middle of a fad or a revival, but I know I'm one of the suckers who's forever grateful she got dragged in.

We all have assorted sites where we talk among ourselves that are sport or site specific, but I wanted to make a meeting place, somewhere where we all can gather and just discuss our suicidal passion for strapping wheels to our feet and going very fast without worrying whether its quad or inline, outdoor or indoor, hockey, derby, jamming, or whatever you're into.

http://queencobras.tribe.net/

(The tribe was actually originally set up for another purpose, hence the weird URL, but didnt take off. I figured why waste it? I'm going to be getting tribe to help me change the URL later. :) )

Slideboard Materials?

Not a lively tribe, but then I don't expect skaters to spend much time sitting in front of their computers.

Here's my deal; for about seven years I did a lot of skating back in the northeast, then I had some major life changes, including moving to a southwestern mountain town with scant pavement. I haven't really skated in the last six years and now, just as the snow has started, I have started up again. I'm in terrible shape and would like to get back in condition. Who knows, maybe even dust off my Bonts and find a race or two (somebody's gotta come in last, eh?).

So I want to build a slideboard. Any of Y'all done it? Have any suggestions for materials etc... ?
